LJMU Tower - Liverpool

28DaysLater Report - https://www.28dayslater.co.uk/threads/ljmu-tower-liverpool-november-2025.150124/

The building now known as the LJMU Tower began life in the mid-1960s as a commercial office block for Midland Bank, a distinctly modernist structure that never quite blended in with its surroundings. It later became part of Liverpool John Moores University’s estate, used mostly for administrative departments rather than teaching.

By 2016 the university had moved staff into newer offices, leaving the tower gradually empty and eventually fully vacant. It has stood unused ever since, a familiar but overlooked landmark awaiting a purpose. Several redevelopment schemes have been proposed over the years, and the latest aims to convert the tower into residential use with added floors and a complete internal overhaul.

After decades of shifting roles, the building is now poised for yet another reinvention—if the plans finally make it through.

There isn’t much to see inside this building, but I’ve had my eye on it for a while. The rooftop offers great views, though with the whole structure made of glass, it’s hard to stay unnoticed—especially after I found out the power still works and accidentally lit up the entire entrance hall.
